Tabian
( tab-ee-an )
aka wild rabbtis
Appearance and Behavior
The Tabians are humanoid rabbit creatures with a heavy Irish inspiration! They have strikingly bright eye colors and natural fur colors that mimic nature. They are intelligent and curious, and also known to be very stubborn. The diversity of personality will still vary from being to being, and yet, they all share the same primitive desire to quickly turn on a dime and sprint. Prey animals such as the rabbit would flee from danger because of fear; The Tabians on the contrary, are quite brave. They have deep, natural sense of awareness.

*Fur color and pattern may be influenced by race

Race, Geography, Clothing
The world of the Tabian rests on a large continent with a colorful assortment of climate, landscapes, and foilage.
The Ariella Divide splits the continent in half separating Eleanora from Gierra with 60 miles of red rock.
As a real life comparison, the continent is half of the United States, or, Spain and Germany beside each other.

Eleanora
Eleanoran (El-an-ore-ah) (El-an-ore-an)
• Leader: King Xavier
• Temperate, vast plains and fields, small patches of forests, two large freezing cold rivers that flow from the north glaciers to the southern sea (Pearl River and Rosewater Run).
• Fur patterns are classically spotted and can have up to four colors.
• Can have stripes from the northern race.
• The most striking feature however, are the eyes, which can be ANY color and are very bright.
• Dominant genes: Spots have a moderately strong chance to be passed,
which continues to keep the pattern unique to the area.

Central Eleanora Clothing
Single cloth wrapping style in just about any way that can be imagined, any color! Not big on embellishment on clothing, makes it more difficult to wash and upkeep. Tabians would rather add feathers and jewelry to themselves.

North Eleanora

• Very cold region, coniferous foliage, grey rock, pine forests, dense wilderness, and snow.
• Single/duo coats with stripes, one or many, any part of the body in any size.
• Any eye color, however, green, teal and brown is most common.
• This race of Tabians are small in number. They have trouble conceiving.
• VERY devout.
• Dominant stripe gene; babies always get stripes from one striped parent.
If the character has a distant relative from the north, they can be born spotty with a stripe somewhere on the body as well. Sunny for example has an Eleanoran mother and Northern father, so she is spotty with a nose stripe (thanks dad)

North Eleanora Clothing
Similar style to Central Eleanora, with extra layers of fur and leather in dull colors.

Dea

Dean (Day-ah) (Day - ehn) aka Pirates
• Leader: Pirate King Lance
• The country has complete control over the center of the continent, and have access to most parts of the world because of seafaring and the subterranean rivers throughout the Ariella Divide.
• These people have a heavy Irish inspired influence, accent and terminology!
• Tabians hate the water and can not swim so this group of people are very brave and unique.
• Pure Dea Tabians are single or duo-toned and do NOT have spots.
• May have stripes since the stripe gene is strong.
• Darker or more mute fur colors.
• Eyes are muted in any color.
• Live by the sea, generally do not like mixing with other races.
• Dominant gene: muting of eye color.

Lance's Sigil; representing his ship on the water.

Dea Clothing
Classic pirate attire with a viking and dirty dystopia twist... and less of the fine embellishments. Thick coats, scarfs, cotton shirts, obora leather foot wraps, hats and jerkins. Women could also wear loose wrapped like dresses in the Eleanora style.

Gierra
Gierran (Gee-air-ah) (Gee-air-an)
• Live on the other side of the mountains, far East of the continent, in the red rock desert.
• Info about this region wont be explained until it is revealed much later in the story.
!! Therefore, no one may make a Gierra Tabian at this time !!
Acceptable Mutations:
Albinoism (All white, pink eyes, sensitive to light)
Hypopigmentation (all black or all white)
Heterochromia (One eye is a different color than the other)
Four colors including hair.

Unacceptable Mutations:
More than four colors for the fur is impossible. Three on fur + one hair color MAX!
NOTE!
This is a guide, and there is no need to stress over what your character's pattern is in relation to where they live or what they do. Treat it as flavor to liven up the backstory to your character. Use as you please!
Accessories
Leather lace, feathers, beads, metal charms, rings, arm bands, tattoos, piercings... Tabians love them.
A style that is a distant echo of their ancestors.

Footwraps
Tabians don't wear shoes. How can you run with a hunk of metal over your feet? You'd have to clip your claws short..

Tabians use footwraps, made of any textile available from cotton to Obora leather and in any color. They can have thin metal soles for climbing trees all day or mountain climbing. Toes and claws are ALWAYS out! Royalty will wear "shoes" on occasion, when in public or at parties, but they are just footwraps with a base.

Hair
Search for Nordic hairstyles on Pinterest, and become inspired.
Tabians love long hair to wrap jewelry and feathers into. Keeping it short however, is not uncommon.
Shaving part of the head, dreads, buns and braids are popular traits.

Wolfex Fur
Only aristocrats (very rich) and royalty wear Wolfex fur. It is most commonly worn around the shoulders, alone or attached to hoods, jackets and dress wear. Royalty wear fur bleached white, but can wear natural colored pelts on occasion. If you are not an aristocrat or royalty and wear wolfex fur this way, you may be publicly scorn; doing such is very offensive and is mocking the Aristocratic society and Royal Family.

Religion
The Tabian religion is polytheistic.

To understand Tabian religion, you must first study the holy symbol, The Ternary.

Each point represent:
Eleanora’s Will (God), Tabian Soul, and Nature

While each connection represent the influence of the two,
Tabian and God
Nature and Tabian
God and Nature

Tabians believe everything has been and will always be created by the three major forces above all others. You can’t neglect one point without the other two, because all three form the meaning of our very existence. Eleanora is the Goddess that created the world and is worshiped and prayed to as such. Beyond her, there are countless Gods, Goddesses and Spirits, with and without forms. Gods in this world are not appointed “duties” or “God of ___”. Rather, they exist with their own will and can change that will any time they please. Who says we have to label a role to our creators, as though they don’t have a choice? They are immortal spirits, whom, have their own plans. They may change the way they are represented as the years go by, but will always remain the same entity within the hearts of all. They also appear in many forms that depict the force they represent and control in a way that is best understood to the community or the one creating the representative art.
Artifacts are common in worship, but only the most devout exercise it. Large clay beads represent the most important fragments of your life that has influenced you, only known to you, and counted off in times of trouble. Any kind of jewelry, weapon, clothing, tattoos, and charms with the Ternary is also popular.

Cities are often named after Gods. Gierra for example, is in the middle of a hot desert and red cliffs… but exists all the same. More mysterious still, no one has a record of its rising. The oldest testimony to it’s perplexing birth, is an old statue of Gierra underneath the palace. The city has many secrets to tell, and is considered to be a miracle all on its own as though Gierra himself had built it.

A small worship space is called a temple or a sanctuary, large spaces that are usually in the center of a community are called cathedrals. Worshiping is personal, and is done alone or with your family. Celebrating however, is a grand party held twice a year around the spring and fall harvest times.
Tabians don’t believe in an absolute fate and destiny, but do believe their paths are influenced by Eleanora or other Gods.
Pearls, Marriage, Profession
Pearls
Tabians can't swim. They sink like a rock, and just won't survive in deep water. They have a survival instinct about the sea as though it would be their complete undoing. The sea is absolutely terrifying. This very reason is why pearls are one of the most expensive, precious procession a Tabian can own. They are traded as the most valuable object over any metal or gems, and are most sought after for marriage proposals. Pearls are the diamonds of the Tabian world.
Here is how the the southern race (Dea race, aka pirates) are real special. Some can swim! AND they sail their very phobia, the sea, as though it is their only home. Just this very fact makes the entire idea of a pirate mortifying to a common Eleanora Tabian. They can't understand or fathom it. Some explain it through the work of a sea God manipulating Eleanora's creations to it's liking. It's an enigma.

Common Marriage
Either partner will find a pearl from the sea, and present it to their mate. Any precious token is acceptable, but the pearl is the best choice; a symbol of what one would do at great lengths (often inconceivably) for the other.

Profession
At an early age around six or seven years, the Clan (family) will assist the child's family in deciding what job path the child will master. It's unusual for a Tabian to change job classes. It is work for life, and what you are most good at and interested in at an early age. A brawling child may be a warrior. A child who spends most of their time in the field and with flowers may be an herbalist or a doctor. Everything is weighed in the final picture, if more warriors are needed, the families who have the most warrior offspring will be asked to have another. Tabians believe in hereditary, nobility, and genetics; the community is everything.

Government and World Politics
“The Ariella Conflict”
The twenty year conflict conflict between Dea and Gierra is ongoing. Dea fights over the mountain’s resources, trade deals, and right to rule without religious persecution. King Lance of Dea also has a very personal hatred for Gierra and it's people.

Dea has mastered the art of seafaring, and now has control over the entire mountain strip of the Ariella Divide, all subterranean channels that flow throughout it, and most coastal towns. No one can trade from one side of the continent to the other without his approval.. which he has ceased completely. Gierrans have been completely excommunicated from the world. The desert cities of Gierra are starving, suffering and poor.
Twenty years ago...
The start of the war began with both factions slaughtered in the masses in a surprise attack of the capitol, Dea's Grotto. Gierrans sneaked through the crevices of the mountains into the city, annihilating hundreds in their sleep. The Dean pirate warriors were extremely loud, brutal and primitive with the revenge. They tortured all captured, cutting the heads off the Gierrans and throwing their bodies over the cliffs. The mountains are the Deans terrain, and knew every inch of it; they used guerrilla warfare to lure the Gierrans into hidden caverns and pathways they thought were an advantage, then provoking huge rock land slides over the invaders, moving quickly through the subterranean rivers and caverns to revolt.
In the long term aftermath is just as worse as the fight, resulting in severe psychological decay within the surviving ranks of the Gierrans who were now corrupt with insanity, PTD, and other psychological disorders.
For the Deans however, it lit a spark. They erected large fortresses along the mountain expanse and implementing a strong military base within, found a deeper sense of the pirate code, and finally, a stronger love for the sea.

After six years of smaller battles and fighting, Lance made some headway with revenge by killing Gierra's King in a personal way; himself, with a poison cast rapier. A tale to be revealed in the book.

Eleanora remained a silent throughout ( for secret reasons I won't spoil here until it is revealed in the comic ), King Xavier is headstrong on keeping Eleanora neutral even though Lance has given them very little give and the next to-be King, Ridak, is a Military General that despises the pirate race to his very core.

Eleanora Government
Monarchy with Oligarchy undertone.
The government is of a strict bloodline of King and Queen, guided by the High Council, a small group of people distinguished by nobility, wealth, family ties, education, religious, political, and military power. The control over the royal family’s lives is extremely strict to keep the bloodline clean.

The direct descendant is believed to have the blood of Eleanora in their veins, and is considered to be the next ruler by divine right. The offspring may be male, or female. To keep the bloodline strong they choose the most fitting mate in two ways depending on the current royal family’s bearings. This decision is made by the current King and the High Council. Coronation occurs on the prince/princess' 20th birth year called the Raspberry Festival, where the new King or Queen is wed right after coronation, as a symbol of new life and celebration, as they enter Summer into a new year. (Thats right, new job AND new spouse on the same day!) After the spouse is selected or chosen, they both are paint each other in warpaint, have a small wedding ritual.. and then celebrate! A more prestige party to honor the marriage will follow later. The previous King and Queen retire as advisers to the descendants.

1. Tournament style, popular choice if the descendant is female, and only still practiced to keep old traditions alive. Qualified candidates are placed on a special list that can take a lifetime to be placed on. Every candidate is looked over for years, to ensure only the best fits make it to the tournament and in turn, to the throne. Credentials are most important! It is not a free for all! Any person living within the country may be on the selection, but anyone outside the country is much more difficult to pass. People call it “The Berry List” when talking about it, since really, the official term “Royal Proposition of Successors” just sounds too aristocratic for most.

2. Special Selection. The High Council directly selects a suitor, uncontested. This is the more popular method selected if the descendant is a male, but can happen in various situations if female. This is the most modern way to wed the royal descendant. They get special pre-training under the King and Council, then, all they have to do is show up at the Raspberry Festival.

Currency
World currency is "Coin". Nickel square flats with a thick bevel, Ternary printed on one side, the Eleanora Sigil on the other. (Lace has minted his own coin with the Ternary on one side, his symbol on the other).

Trade and barter is still very popular, but metal coin is gaining popularity due to pirate influence and their domineering control over world trade. Eleanora *had been* the Capitol for casting currency and was responsible for monitoring inflation, etc… but now since world trade is under pirate control, Dea ceased sending nickel to Eleanora to mint and just began doing this themselves. Eleanora continues to mint to regulate what they could and avoid a total economic collapse, by mining small amounts of nickel from the Bexley Mountains.
Technology, Militia, Whistling
Technology
Eleanoran Tabians do not believe the explanation of sciences are the work of Gods. In the same manner, science can't explain the will of life. Science and religion is separate, because Tabians live to experience. They are very intelligent beings with alchemy, herbalism and medicines, and do have surgeons, physicians and nurses.
Some examples of the tools and inventions used currently to give perspective are as follows
• Steel, almost any kind of metal
• Mechanical clocks, magnet compass
• Magnifying glass, stained glass
• Masonry, sculptures made from local rock
• Blast furnace, grindstones, steel, iron, raw ores can be shaped into anything
• General understanding about the chemistry of raw ores
• Ornate jewelry, beads
• Clay, brick, concrete
• Paper mill, ink
• Looms for cotton clothing, silk made from Gierra
• Wide variety of soaps, oils, salts and perfumes.
• Longbow, Steelbow, Long and short swords, spear and pike.. Actually a huge range of weapons cause I'm a nutcase for military and defense.
• ABSOLUTELY NO GUNS! They ruin everything.
• Very primitive grenades, explosives, and fireworks are okay
• Eco-sensitive architecture; use of glass and grass to heat a home, and overall structure design to cool it. Also smaller inventions seen everywhere for conservation of water, aqueducts, irrigation systems and wells.
• Heavy plows for crops using Oboras

Militia

The military hierarchy begins with the General on top, working down through Commander and then split into Four Directional Teams, then further to Gate and Wall Guards, Scouts, and City Officers. Ridak has also implemented a new team during his career, "Special Operations" whose members are his most skilled soldiers that use unconventional methods and resources to get a job done. Several thousand citizens are trained and enlisted in the military within the capitol, and may be called for active duty training up to four times a year.

Whistle Communication

The Whistling language was developed as a way for the militia to easily communicate between the ranks. It is strictly exclusive and only taught to military personnel, although a short "hey!" is perfectly fine for any civilian to use. Whistling is heard often in the streets, and is considered a local attribute that makes Eleanora so unique.
Uniform design is unisex
Architecture and More Maps
Still have much to add!

Morpaint, Wolfex, Obora
Morpaint
An invention Ridak has created; a white toxic paint laced with essence of “Mor” a very toxic plant. It takes months to create, and only Ridak and a handful of trusted people put it into production. It is kept in a tight sealed ceramic jar. Once painted on the body, it sticks for months. The toxicity in the paint is described as a “constant flow of energy” or “high” to the user. Whenever the user inhales, the skin absorbs the toxins through the bloodstream. Regular paint is only used before battles and ceremonies; but some Tabians in the military, including Ridak, are addicted to Morpaint, and are constantly using it.

Obora
Body resembles a large deer standing an average of six feet tall, fluffy chest and tail, and coo like a caribou. Temperament is calm and majestic and don't get startled easily. They can kick really hard. Oboras are easily trained as service animals to live and help the Tabians, like horses are to humans. They can be mounted and ridden in tough terrain because of their agile bodies and hard feet. They thrive in temperate to cold conditions.

Wolfex
The wolfex is a very large wolf and fox hybrid with a bright yellow eyes. Tails are brush like, made of long coarse hair. Behavior is violent and cannot be tamed into domestication. They are known to eat Tabians. Excellent and quiet hunters, they pounce on and rush at their prey with incredible speed. They growl, howl, whine, and terrify with aggressive "vorking". Wolfex pups are more stupid curious than violent but no less dangerous.
Ever since Ridak killed their leader Klyst, they don't come close to the city anymore. Well... Not suppose to.

They reside in caves and caverns throughout the continent.

Medicine

Tabian medicine is best compared to the traditional Chinese homeopathic medicines using herbology.
They love experimenting with drugs and anything found in nature. If its a leaf, we will smoke it, crush it, cook it, eat it, make it a tea... anything to test the effects until something useful is discovered. They have a basic understanding of how the body functions, disease, and its behavior. Poisons and their antidotes are soundly understood. Minor surgeries can be performed such as stitches, tumor removal, and bone re-alignment. Major surgery has been attempted and failed.

Due to the toxicity of most medicinals, self-care is rare. Individuals are encouraged to see a professional. Physicians practice from their home unless the patient cannot walk. The typical storefront is brimming wall-to-wall with shelves of herbs, balms, liquids, and dry ingredients.

Tabians are resilient and healthy creatures. They will heal quickly if treated correctly using nature’s resources.

Medicines
• Raw minerals, food, plants, spices, fungi, roots
• Typically, one batch of medicinals is prepared as a brew of 2 or more substances
• Some recipes can be dried and packed into “soft pills”
• Antibacterial balms and creams
• Acupuncture
• Exercise, stretching, “yoga”
• May also be prescribed to seek spiritual guidance or meditation as part of the treatment
• Splints, slings, casting
Terminology

Physicians
• Research, experiment, document, diagnose and prescribe.
• Report to the High Council once a year to achieve their records and discoveries.
• Are not “Doctors”. I won’t be using the typical education system to describe it,
so at the moment there is no such thing as a doctorate.
Nurses
• Assist the doctor with the patient and are usually the ones that mix medicinals as instructed.
Herbalists
• Gather and prepare herbs to sell to physicians or the public. It’s a hardworking job that requires a lot of fieldwork.
Successful physicians hire their own personal herbalist.
